"Watch out
for Taylormade, an up and coming music producer right here
in Los Angeles," proclaims KCAL Channel 9. Though still
a relative newcomer to the L.A. music scene, Taylormade has
already earned a reputation as one of the hottest new hip
hop and R&B producers in L.A. Since 2000, he has tracks
or worked with many notable artists including Da Brat, E-40,
Master P, Butch Cassidy, Curren$y(Cash Money and Lil Wayne's
"Young Money") and Nate Dogg.
Originally from Chicago and then moving to Arizona in grade
school, Taylormade moved west in 1993 to play basketball and
study Athletic training at Point Loma University in San Diego.
He anticipated a career in the music industry by a side job
as a DJ and then having interest in the production process.
He began working with a group called Divine Order for which
he served as both DJ and producer. "For me music is about
expressing emotion and having the freedom to be creative,"
he explains. Taylormade's passion for music, ear for fresh
talent and easy goingpersonality make him highly desirable
to work with.
Taylormade produced most of the songs on Cole's upcoming album
Fame, which he describes as "a very versatile album,"
adding, "Cole's style is unique and her music blends
urban soul and R&B with hip hop flavor."
Taylormade is currently involved with several other noteworthy
projects including his own compilation album he produced titled
Bread, Blunts, and Broads, featuring artists Nijay, Sweet
Geez, Cole, Vellqwan, Haze, J-Stalin, AP-9(Mobb Figgaz), and
Stace. He is excited about the album and the sundry collaborations
between the various artists. "It's a mix of east and
west coast sound and it's different than anything else out
there right now," Taylormade explains. The date for the
highly anticipated release will be announced soon. Taylormade
also recently produced Harlem crooner Nijay's new album, Split
Personality. "Nijay definitely has that New York flavor
and has pure raw talent with his hooks and writing. The ability
to write good hooks is really important," Taylormade
says. Nijay's innovative sound utilizes both his singing and
rapping skills to create a new and unique style all his own.
Which will in turn get him a record deal or Oddball Entertainment
will schedule a spring release for his album. This year has
already been a successful one for Taylormade and he has even
more exciting projects still to come. Taylormade has a weekly
documentary show on Comcast cable airing in Los Angeles and
then bicycling into other states. A Comcast producer is following
him around to show his career in process and the show will
be moving into a Los Angeles night club where Taylormade will
be the resident DJ. Another project he is involved in will
have two songs that he produced and be featured in an upcoming
indie film called "God's Waiting List" due out later
this year. Though his main focus thus far has been in hip
hop and R&B production, Taylormade is also interested
in venturing into other genres, particularly pop music production
and also wants to be DJing more because he has been focusing
on music production. "I look for someone who is innovative
and open minded in their creativity as an artist, "Taylormade.
In addition to his role as a producer, Taylormade also recently
started up his own record label, Oddball Entertainment, along
with his two partners. "I was inspired by other independent
labels and I have a great team built around me so I felt like
it was a good time to do it," he says. They currently
have four hot new artists on the roster; opera-trained R&B/soul
singer Cole, Harlem crooner Nijay, rapper Sweet Geez from
the bay, and dance/trip hop artist Esence. Taylormade's passion
for music, ambitious nature and strong work ethic has allowed
him to become successful in a very short amount of time. The
ability to discover and shape new talent is an essential asset
for all producers and Taylormade has already proven that he
has what it takes. "I love music and love making it.
I'm so fortunate to do what I do." Taylormade
